Steven Jaffee is an agricultural economist with more than three decades of experience related to agro-food system development in low- and middle-income countries. He has led complex multi-disciplinary research programs, provided high-level policy advice, and contributed to investment project design and monitoring in relation to multiple themes, including food security, agricultural diversification, risk management, sustainable commodity value chains, agricultural trade, urban food systems, and the economics of food safety. He has worked in many countries, although the majority of his field experience has been in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Steven is the (co-)author of several dozen books, journal articles or other published reports related to agro-food system issues and rural development.

Prior to joining Rogers MacJohn, Steven was a long-standing staff member and Lead Agricultural Economist at the World Bank. His work has involved collaborations with researchers and practitioners affiliated with many other international organizations (including the FAO, UNIDO, WHO, WTO, and IFPRI), universities, and governmental and private organizations. Steven is also a Lecturer at the University of Maryland’s Agricultural and Resource Economics Department.

Steven has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in agricultural economics from Oxford University.
