Steve Homer
Principal

Steve Homer is a recognized international certification and standards specialist. He has worked with the Global Food Safety Initiative and the Global Social Compliance Platform in developing benchmarking criteria and writing normative reference standards over the last decade. Steve has served on the Boards of GlobalGap, the Ethical Trade Initiative, NSF-CMi (a global not-for-profit certification and risk management organization), and the UK National Proficiency and Testing Council.  He has worked on global certification projects in Ukraine for the UK Foreign Office and Ministry of the Netherlands.

Steve has over 30 years of experience working with global retailers, food companies, and agribusinesses on trade issues, value chain development and international standards-setting and regulation across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He has over 20 years of experience in private- and public-funded projects supporting the economic upgrading of agricultural value chains and in managing and administrating large funds (e.g. DFID- funded Food Retail Industry Challenge Fund; EHPEA, Marks and Spencer; DFID TGVCI Global Value Chains). He has proven experience working to improve livelihoods, poverty reduction, and workers’ rights and conditions.

Steve is currently developing benchmark criteria for the global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef and working with the Dairy Sustainability Framework with a focus on the Dairy Asia Project. He has recently stood down from the NSF certification (UK) Integrity Board after a decade of voluntary service in the oversight of certification activities in global agriculture.
