Founder and Managing Director
As the Founder and Managing Director of Rogers MacJohn, Richard helps companies move beyond traditional CSR to become primary agents for delivering societal and shareholder value. He leverages insight and experience from over 20 years in industry, management consulting, and philanthropy at industry-leading organizations.
While at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Richard developed and managed a $400m portfolio of grants and corporate co-investments to catalyze greater productivity, market access, and incomes for 2 million small African farms. Prior to joining the Gates Foundation, her served as a consultant with McKinsey & Co, where he advised global clients in the food, agribusiness, and consumer goods industries on supply chain efficiency and risk, corporate strategy, and organizational effectiveness. During his earlier career at Kraft Foods, he managed cross-functional, global teams to drive product innovation and efficiency improvements in manufacturing and commodity procurement.
Richard has been recognized for brokering high-value, effective partnerships across public and private organizations that merge social impact into business strategy. Through identifying opportunities for social impact along supply chains, he helps corporations, governments, donors, and NGO’s leverage core competencies, build partnerships, and develop business models that secure lasting impact around shared interests. He has advised multinational corporations such as Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart, Mars, and Kraft in addition to government agencies such as USAID, BMZ, World Bank, DFID, and the Nigerian, Ethiopian, and Tanzanian Ministries of Agriculture. He has also advised social-sector organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Omidyar Network, United Nations, GIZ, US African Development Foundation, and Winrock. Richard also serves as a director on the Boards of the US-based Committee for Sustainability Assessment (COSA) and for the Australia-based organization, Business for Development, a consultancy and implementer of programs for business-driven social impact focused on the extractives industry in Asia-Pacific and Africa.
Richard holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida.
Anna combines a decade of experience leading corporate sustainability strategy within major FMCG companies with eight years of strategy consulting experience. She now advises corporate and not-for-profit clients on models for delivering business and societal value, with a particular focus on the consumer goods sector and on complex agricultural supply chains.
Anna has a proven track record of developing new business models that deliver commercial and societal value, of building effective multi-stakeholder partnerships, and of creating and empowering teams and networks within and across organizations. She brings a blend of creative vision, analytical rigor and behavioral insight to elevate sustainability within corporate strategy and to influence senior leaders to act. She has particular experience on issues that relate to agricultural supply chains, including livelihoods, women’s empowerment, human rights and water.
Until November 2016, Anna was Sustainable Development Director for SABMiller plc, leading its Prosper strategy globally - to enable category and brand innovation and growth, drive operational efficiency and license to operate, engage employees, and deliver positive impact for society. She had joined SABMiller in 2012 as Head of Water and Food Security Policy and led global sustainable agriculture strategy for two years prior to taking on the broader sustainable development portfolio. She was a non-executive Director of SABMiller India and a Board member of the WEF New Vision for Agriculture. Prior to joining SABMiller, Anna was Head of Development, Cocoa Partnership at Cadbury and then Kraft Foods. She led the multi-stakeholder Cadbury Cocoa Partnership from its establishment in 2008 until 2012, including developing a groundbreaking community-centered partnership in Ghana with the Ghanaian government, UNDP, NGOs and commercial partners, and designing Kraft Foods’ sustainable cocoa strategy. From 2001 to 2007, Anna was a strategy consultant, leading projects in the food and drink, automotive and logistics sectors. She has also worked as a pro bono small business advisor in West Africa, lived and worked in Ecuador, in Germany and in South Africa.
Anna has a Master of Law degree from the University of Nottingham and degree in German from the University of Hannover.
Bill Guyton is a senior-level leader within international agribusiness and non-profit organizations who is committed to leading the creation and implementation of global sustainability best practices. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his ability to create public-private partnerships and resilient supply chain and community-based programs.
Bill advises private firms and non-profits on strategic planning, technical training, and partnership development. Prior to joining Rogers MacJohn, he founded and served as CEO of the World Cocoa Foundation for 15 years where he grew the organization from a handful of companies to a globally recognized organization with 115 members representing 85% of the global chocolate industry focused on improving the sustainability of cocoa production and the livelihoods of smallholder cocoa farmers worldwide. He has also worked in other agricultural value chains such as feed grains, livestock and fruits and vegetables. More recently, Bill assisted the Sustainable Rice Platform in revising its strategy and governance structure to more effectively deliver on the needs of its members, reach financial self-sufficiency, and achieve greater impact for smallholder rice farmers. In addition, he has worked with the African cotton and poultry industries to develop sustainability platforms driving systems change.
In addition to his career record of successful leadership, he currently serves on the Advisory Board for the World Food Law Institute, the Board of Directors for The Alliance to End Hunger, and the Association for International Agriculture and Development.
Bill has a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University.
Charlene McKoin draws on over 20 years of international development and for-profit business experience to facilitate collaboration and market-driven development. Throughout her career she has developed innovative partnerships aimed at improving market access and driving behavior change for new technology adoption. Her work emphasizes the identification and support of viable small- and medium-sized businesses, which through appropriate risk management, financing and training, can effectively target underserved rural farming communities.
Prior to joining Rogers MacJohn, Charlene served as a Senior Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where she specialized in integrated value chain development and post-harvest loss measurement and mitigation. Before joining the Gates Foundation in 2012, Charlene spent more than eight years managing a variety of USAID-funded agribusiness, financial, nutrition and HIV/AIDS projects for Abt Associates, Cardno Emerging Markets and AFRICARE.
Prior to her years in international development, Charlene spent 20 years in international structured trade and project finance for Bank of America, JP Morgan and Wells Fargo. As an international banker, she worked with Fortune 500 companies and managed relationships with Latin American banks and companies such as Petrobras, Vale, PDVSA, Embraer, and Electricidad de Caracas. She has lived and worked in Africa and Latin America focused on Lusophone countries such as Brazil, Mozambique, Angola and Guinea Bissau.
Charlene holds a BA in History and Anthropology from Sarah Lawrence College and an MA in International Affairs, Policy, Economics, and Development from Johns Hopkins University.
Per Braginski is an experienced strategy and marketing professional with expertise in translating consumer insights into product, service and brand concept development.
Per advises corporations, as well as NGOs and development organizations, in generating and leveraging key insights of their customers, suppliers, and beneficiaries to enhance strategy development, market segmentation, product and service offerings, and communication. Per also works closely with clients’ own market research and consumer insights teams to enhance their own internal capacity for better understanding not only the needs of consumers but of those of the stakeholders in their supply chains, including smallholder farmers, as part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy.
Prior to joining Rogers MacJohn, Per held positions within leading global manufacturing, service, consulting, and advertising companies such as Nokia, Bang & Olufsen, Ogilvy, TDC and Kunde & Co. While at Nokia, Per led the consumer insights and consumer planning function to develop product and service concepts for low-income consumers in emerging markets, with a focus on Africa and Asia. He led the work on identifying the insights and the specific needs of these consumers and ensured that the insights generated found their way into products and services relevant to low-income consumers.
Per holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business and a Master of Science in Economics & Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School.
Steve Homer is a recognized international certification and standards specialist. He has worked with the Global Food Safety Initiative and the Global Social Compliance Platform in developing benchmarking criteria and writing normative reference standards over the last decade. Steve has served on the Boards of GlobalGap, the Ethical Trade Initiative, NSF-CMi (a global not-for-profit certification and risk management organization), and the UK National Proficiency and Testing Council. He has worked on global certification projects in Ukraine for the UK Foreign Office and Ministry of the Netherlands.
Steve has over 30 years experience working with global retailers, food companies, and agribusinesses on trade issues, value chain development and international standards setting and regulation across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He has over 20 years of experience in private- and public-funded projects supporting the economic upgrading of agricultural value chains and in managing and administrating large funds (e.g. DFID- funded Food Retail Industry Challenge Fund; EHPEA, Marks and Spencer; DFID TGVCI Global Value Chains). He has proven experience working to improve livelihoods, poverty reduction, and workers’ rights and conditions.
Steve is currently developing benchmark criteria for the global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef and working with the Dairy Sustainability Framework with a focus on the Dairy Asia Project. He has recently stood down from the NSF certification (UK) Integrity Board after a decade of voluntary service in the oversight of certification activities in global agriculture.
